Because when it comes to your baby, we believe in looking at the whole picture.
Bringing your baby to a chiropractor for the first time might feel a little unfamiliar, especially if you've never experienced pediatric chiropractic care yourself!
Maybe your baby prefers turning their head in one direction, you've noticed some tension in their little body, or you're navigating questions about feeding and development. Or perhaps you're simply curious about what pediatric chiropractic care looks like and whether it might be appropriate for your little one.
Wherever you are in your parenting journey, you don't have to have it all figured out before walking through our doors.
At The Chiropractic Place for Mommy & Me in Aledo, Texas, we believe great care starts with listening, understanding your baby's unique story, and helping you feel confident in the decisions you make for your family.
Let's walk through what you can expect when you bring your newest little blessing to our office!
Why Do Parents Bring Their Newborns to a Pediatric Chiropractor?
Babies are wonderfully and intricately designed! From pregnancy and birth through their first months of life, their bodies are constantly growing, adapting, and learning new movements.
Every baby has a different story, and every family has different reasons for reaching out.
Some parents contact our office because they've noticed:
Head-turning preferences: Their baby consistently looks or turns toward one side.
Head shape concerns: They have questions about flattening or asymmetry in their baby's head.
Feeding challenges: Breastfeeding or bottle feeding hasn't been quite what they expected.
Body positioning or movement: Their baby seems more comfortable in certain positions than others.
Birth-related questions: They'd like an evaluation following a lengthy labor, C-section, or assisted delivery.
Other parents reach out simply because they want to learn more about their baby's movement, development, and whether a musculoskeletal evaluation might be helpful.
You don't have to know whether your baby needs chiropractic care before scheduling an evaluation.
That's part of our job: to listen, examine, explain what we find, and help you determine whether our services are appropriate.
And if another healthcare provider may be a better fit for your baby's concerns, we'll help guide you in that direction.
How Soon After Birth Can My Baby Have Their First Chiropractic Visit?
This is one of the questions we hear from new moms!
Some families schedule a pediatric chiropractic appointment during their newborn's first couple of weeks of life. Others wait until a specific concern arises, or until they feel ready to add another outing to their already busy newborn days.
There is no medically established age when every healthy newborn needs a chiropractic visit.
We love seeing families grow, and it's especially sweet when parents we've cared for through pregnancy bring us their newest little blessing!
Whether your baby is a few days old, several weeks old, or already exploring the world around them, we'll start by learning about their individual health and development.
What Happens at Your Baby's First Chiropractic Appointment?
Your baby's first visit is approximately 30 minutes, and we want that time to feel unhurried, informative, and welcoming.
Here's what a first visit looks like at TCP.
1. We Start With Your Baby's Story
Before we ever consider an adjustment, we want to hear from you!
We'll spend time talking about your pregnancy, labor and delivery, your baby's health history, and anything you've noticed since bringing your little one home.
We may ask questions about:
Pregnancy, labor, and birth experiences
Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding concerns
Head and neck positioning
Movement and developmental milestones
Your baby's comfort in different positions
Any evaluations or recommendations from your pediatrician or other providers
You know your baby better than anyone, Mama!
What you've noticed at home matters to us, and we want you to feel comfortable sharing your questions and concerns.
2. A Gentle, Individualized Evaluation
Once we've learned about your baby's history, we'll complete an age-appropriate examination.
Our doctors may evaluate:
Head and neck movement: How comfortably does your baby turn and move in different directions?
Posture and positioning: Are there noticeable preferences or differences in how your baby positions their body?
Head shape: Are there areas of flattening or asymmetry that warrant further evaluation?
Muscles and joints: Are there areas of tenderness or restricted movement?
Primitive reflexes and development: How are your baby's age-appropriate movement patterns and developmental responses progressing?
Most of this involves watching how your baby naturally moves, gentle positioning, and a careful hands-on examination.
And don't worry! Feeding breaks, diaper changes, and cuddles are always welcome.
Your baby isn't expected to be perfectly still or quiet. We understand newborns, and we work around their needs.
3. We Explain What We Find
This is one of the most important parts of our visit.
We believe in educating, not just adjusting.
Your doctor will talk with you about the examination findings, answer your questions, and explain whether chiropractic care is an appropriate option.
We may also recommend that your baby be evaluated by their pediatrician, an IBCLC, or another pediatric specialist, depending on the concern.
We love collaborating with other providers because caring for babies should be a team effort!
Our goal is for you to leave understanding what we evaluated, what we observed, and the options available to your family.
4. Gentle Pediatric Chiropractic Care, When Appropriate
One of the biggest questions we hear is, "How do you even adjust a baby?"
If you've only experienced chiropractic adjustments as an adult, you may be surprised by how different our infant techniques look!
When your doctor determines that a gentle chiropractic technique is appropriate, and after discussing the information needed to know by their parent, then a pediatric chiropractic adjustment care may involve light, controlled fingertip contact.
We often describe the pressure as similar to what you'd use when gently checking whether an avocado is ripe.
Your baby's doctor may also discuss gentle craniosacral or myofascial techniques, depending on the examination findings.
Your baby. Your family. Your choice.
If care isn't appropriate, we'll tell you. And if you choose not to proceed with an adjustment, that decision will always be respected.
5. Education and Simple Things You Can Do at Home
Before you leave, we'll answer any remaining questions and discuss recommendations relevant to your baby's needs.
Sometimes that includes guidance on age-appropriate movement, positioning, or supervised tummy time.
And because we know those newborn days can be a blur, we want our recommendations to feel manageable rather than adding another long to-do list to your day.

Will My Baby's Neck Be Cracked or Popped?
We understand why parents ask!
Infant care at our office does not involve the forceful twisting or popping techniques many adults associate with chiropractic adjustments.
Our doctors will describe the techniques they use, explain what they're evaluating, and obtain your permission before providing care.

What Makes Pediatric Chiropractic Care at TCP Different?
One of the things that makes our office special is our focus on mothers, babies, and childhood development.
Our founder, Dr. Michelle Parker, DC, DACCP, IBCLC, FIBFN-CND, has advanced postgraduate training in pediatric chiropractic, lactation, and childhood neurodevelopment.
Her credentials include:
DACCP: Diplomate in Chiropractic Pediatrics
IBCLC: International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
FIBFN-CND: Fellowship training in Childhood Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Dr. Parker works closely with our entire team of pediatric-trained Doctors of Chiropractic, sharing her experience and collaborating on patient care.
While every doctor brings her own strengths and perspective, we share the same heart for helping families feel heard, educated, and supported.
And because infant feeding can be such an important part of those first months, we value working alongside pediatricians, lactation consultants, pediatric dentists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals when needed.
We don't believe parents should have to navigate everything alone.
You can get to know our doctors on our Meet the Doctors page.
What Should I Bring to My Baby's First Appointment?
We want to make your first visit as easy as possible!
Here are a few things that may be helpful:
Your baby's new patient forms: Completing these ahead of time allows us to spend more of your appointment talking with you and evaluating your baby.
Your birth story: Whether everything went exactly as planned or your birth experience took an unexpected turn, we'd love to hear about it.
Your usual feeding supplies: Breastfeeding or bottle feeding, whatever works for your family! We have a private feeding room and diaper-changing areas available.
Any relevant medical information: Notes from your pediatrician or other specialists can be helpful when you have a particular concern.
Your questions: Write them down! We know how easy it is to forget what you wanted to ask once you're juggling a diaper bag and a newborn.
And if you're bringing siblings or hoping to schedule your own adjustment, our team can help coordinate appointments to make the most of your trip. We have toys in each of our treatment rooms for siblings to play with.
When Should My Baby See Their Pediatrician First?
We love being part of a collaborative healthcare team, and there are times when your pediatrician or another medical provider should be your first call.
Please seek medical guidance promptly if your baby:
Has a fever, especially a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher in a baby younger than 3 months
Is struggling to feed, has fewer wet diapers, or isn't gaining weight as expected
Has repeated forceful vomiting
Seems unusually sleepy, difficult to wake, or significantly different from their normal self
Has any symptoms that make you concerned something isn't right
A fever of 100.4°F or higher in a baby younger than three months requires immediate medical evaluation. Trouble breathing, unresponsiveness, or other severe symptoms require emergency care.
A chiropractic evaluation should never delay necessary medical care.
We're happy to work alongside your pediatrician and other providers because your baby's well-being always comes first.
